Care Guide

How to wash, dry and repair the fabrics we sell so they last more than one season.

Almost everything here survives a cold wash and a flat dry. The exceptions are silk, which prefers hand washing, and tailoring, which should go to a dry cleaner no more than twice a year.

  • Wool and cashmere — cold hand wash, dry flat, never hang wet.
  • Silk — cold hand wash with a mild soap, roll in a towel, dry away from sun.
  • Cotton and linen — 30°C machine wash, iron on the reverse while slightly damp.
  • Leather — wipe with a dry cloth, condition twice a year, keep away from radiators.
  • Denim — wash inside out, cold, and as rarely as you can bear.

Repairs

Buttons, seams and hems can be repaired. Send us a photo and we will either fix it or tell you who locally can. Resoling leather shoes is always worth doing.

Storage

Fold knitwear rather than hanging it — hangers stretch the shoulder. Store wool with cedar or lavender, and give everything a day to air between wears.
